King of the Hammers 2014

Anyone planning on going? For those of you that haven't been it's worth the trip. It's a week of racing and good times in the desert of southern california at this little OHV area known as Johnson Valley. It builds up to the King of the hammers race on Friday which is a 100 + mile race that's a mixture of desert racing and rock crawling. Race Date if Friday February 7th. To top it off there's about 30,000 spectators and every odd ball known to man seems to make an appearance.

I should be out there from Tuesday or Wednesday of race week on. I'm sure we could use extra hands. I should be out there pitting for my boss Stan Haynes 4408 as long as we can close up the shop for a couple days.

I know 2 old guys that should come out in one of their rock star busses and either drag the Tonka or stainless jeep along. They would have a blast.

You're probably right about someone who would have a ball. Unfortunately we just got back from eight weeks in the motorhome with the Jeep in back, mostly in California, and don't have the time or money for another trip. And in late February is the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Southern Missouri for which I'm a member of the organizing committee, host of the comm network, and 000 car driver.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.

Good deal, I'll be there pitting for 4408 Stan Haynes. Prep is almost done on the boss's car. Car goes to the dyno Saturday to get a final tune on the LS3 swap. I'll be living at 201 Nitto in the Branik Motorsports pit for the week. If anyone is out there, sing by for a beer, ask for Andy.

Jeepgod I think I made some axle shafts for that car.

How did the Widia car do?

Good meeting you Pat by the way.

4408/ Branik was a big fat DNF. We missed the Chocolate Thunder closing time by about 1/2 an hour. The car was still driving and drove in to the trailer. It wasn't for a lack of effort and they were pushing right until we were told they wouldn't be allowed through pit 2. They blew 2 tires, 2 drive shafts, and 2 brake lines. We'll give the car a once over once it's out of the trailer, it got back to Indiana just as I was leaving work today.

Yes it was good to meet you Andy!! Thanks for stopping by.

We started 127th out of 157 racers on Friday. After being beat off the line by a much faster car David settled into a very fast pace, we average 48 mph for the first 30 miles, which enabled us to pass 28 cars while only being passed by 5, and we ended up passing 2 of those 5 down the road. At one stretch on a dry lakebed we hit 85 mph and passed three cars in a total brown out (dus...t cloud that limited our visibility to about 50 feet), by far the most nerve racking portion of the race. Unfortunately, at race mile 30 our fantastic run ended when our transfer case blew up. We were able to continue on, but at a much slower pace since we only had rear wheel drive, so it took us some time to get back to main pit, which was at mile marker 52. At main pit the crew took over and tore out the transfer case and took it apart. After tearing it apart, it was apparent it was broke beyond repair. With all the rock trails ahead of us and time running short, we decided to call it a day. Many thanks to our crew and those other crews around us that helped out. Great job guys!!!!!
Only 32 cars finished the race.

The car is torn down and upgrades will be happening soon... our next race is the Badlands in June!!! Some of you folks ought to stop on out.

Is that the Badlands in Attica, Indiana?

Yep Will, I believe it's the last weekend of June. Will I should be down pitting for my boss at the Ultra 4 race in Hot Springs the first weekend of April if you want to swing on by.

It's a bummer the T-case took you out. The badlands race is a blast.

Branik's car still hasn't been torn apart and we have a ton of work and leaks from just about every orifice to fix. Time to start burning the mid night oil to get ready for Hot Springs.
