Default Driving without guages

I am dissambling most of my 1980 CJ7 to prep for paint. I have dash and guages removed. Ii need to drive the vehicle about 5 miles to paint it in my uncle's garage. Is it drivable without any off the guages attached? Short of getting a ticket on the way, could I damage anything on the Jeep? Grounding issues to consider?
If an issue, what the mimimum guages I need to reinstall?

i'm not sure but i don't think your required to have any gauges. maybe speedo by law. keep your speed under control you'll be ok. (make sure your brakes/ turns work!)

The lack of guages will not prevent driving, nor will anything be hurt. A hint on speed... go out in a vehicle that's got a good speedo and count the number of highway stripes that go by at 25mph, 35mph, 45mph, 55mph. Then you'll know about what speed you're going when you move the Jeep.

Except for the obvious, I can't think of any reason you should have a problem. The turn signals might blink a little slower without the load of the indicator bulbs, but even that probably won't be noticeable.

This is rather obvious but I'll post it. If you have a mechanical oil pressure sender/guage, cap off the line or it'll squirt oil the whole way. If it's the stock guage it's electrical and won't hurt a thing.

And when you remove the Tach, take those 2 big red wires that came off it and connect them together...otherwise it won't start......ask me how I know...

Otherwise, you will be fine....I did the same thing one time when I was getting it painted...

You might also want to consider takeing out the heater core and related ducting.

kinda same as jeepdawg says....i'd be concerned about shorting stuff out....make sure you cover all hanging wires from the dash removal with a wire nut or tape

No, ammeters would be wired in the alternator output circuit. These two provide power to the ignition system and the tachs that jeep used were in the supply line, not the negative side of the coil.
