Default 85 CJ-7 Frame

I picked up an 85 cj7 this weekend .I went to look at a 79 that had a plow on it, but the iron worms went crazy on that one.Are 85 frame and 79 framesThe same?plow is a nice one on the 79, the body is actually inspectable on the 85. Both are CJ-7s. Thanks guys!!

Yes, the frames should be the same except for the transfer case skid plate.

The only difference is the shock towers on the front shocks, they are bolt on and extended on the newer Seven frames. The older ones were short weld on towers. I put a 85 under my 76 and it al worked out great.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that too.

IIRC the rear tub to frame mounts on a '79 tub are not in the same place as they are on the '85.

The panels we used when repairing the tub of my brothers CJ7 were "less than stellar". Despite being marketed as "CJ7" parts, they were "Universal for CJ/YJ/TJ" parts that required a bit of massaging (additional cutting, bending, BF[rubber]H action) to fit properly... the rough shape, bends, & corrugation were the only pluses over just starting with a chunk of recycled sheetmetal.

I'll find out where his came from (*highly* likely they were JCWhipme versions), so you don't make that mistake!
