Haha, I remember those days when I could "build anything" in my mom and dad's garage for a couple dollars. The folks on the board will tell you how they turned out.
AMC 360 in a TJ is different and in my mind retarded. Go LT1, caddy north star, mopar 5.2/ 5.9 out of a grand cherokee or dodge, lots of other "different" cheap fuel injected engines out there now that the vehicles they came in are starting to fall apart.
A 360 shouldn't bolt to a 4 banger trans. Unless you are swapping in a nv4500 5 speed an ax15 will not live long behind a healthy V8 but most $100 360's aren't super healthy.
Please post pictures and driving impressions when done, maybe you'll prove us wrong

WHY on earth would you want to swap a AMC V-8 into a newer jeep? They are more expensive to build, fuel injection was not stock and after market FI kits are big $$. Your not keeping it real, as in all AMC. It's not worth the headaches or big $$ to swap it in. Your better off with a Dodge V-8 or GM V-8. IDK what your budget is but it's not going to be cheap. The cheapest conversion would be a TBI GM V-8. You will need a trans and t-case too. If you want the biggest bang for the littlest dollar go GM 350 TBI use a 700R4 auto and NP231 tcase out of a 4.3L equipted S-10. If your jeep is on the stock axles sooner than later you will break them with the V-8 power so they will need upgraded too. Look to a D44 or a ford 8.8 for the rear at a minimum, if you havn't already swapped out that D35. If your really power hungry and have a larger budget a 5.7L Hemi or LS-generation GM are better swaps. I'm a big fan of the 6.0L Vortec. There a few olks selling complete kits to drop Hemi's into the TJ.

The bell housing will not bolt up. If it was a 4.0L yeah it would, but not the 4 bangger.
