Default Tie rod end

On a 83 CJ7, Question, on the drivers side, my tie rod had a little slop it it, so I tryed to tighten it up, No luck the pin that the castle nut goes over would jsut spin also. I've been told I can just put some presssure on the under side of the rod end forcing the rod end tight, then I should be able to tighten the nut to 50/60 pounds. Question though, if it spinds at all, does this mean that the rod end itself is bad? Or can i just tighten it up and feel comfortable?

I have put a floor jack under the tie rod next to the tie rod end before to seat it enough to tighten the nut. You might try that. Are you sure the slop is from the stud into the steering knuckle and not the tie rod end on the ball? If it is loose after tightening the nut, you'll need a new tie rod end.
