Default switch to 4.0 in my 2.5

Hello all. I have a 4.0 thats in a 93 grand cherokee. I would like to switch the 2.5 in my wrangler with this motor. Can I do that fairly simple? I know I need to get an ax-15. What about the transfer case? Will the ecm work from an auto cherokee into a standard trans wranger? Is this worth it? Thanks for any and all advise.

There's some good write ups on the net. Lots to change, going to be easiest out of a similar year yj. I'm pretty sure you'll need a 4.0 yj harness. Your t-case will work if you change from a 21 to 23 spline input gear. You will need a yj computer that matches your trans. To do it right your are going to be in the swap 1-3 grand I'd guess.

If your yj is pretty stock I'd sell your yj and find a 4.0 yj to replace it with. I personally would go with a chevy motor if you are going through the hassle of swapping out a 2.5 for something.

You can find better swap canidates. It is not wise to use the ZJ.The 2.5L to 4.0L is a good swap, but I would find a rusted out or wrecked YJ with the 4.0L AX-15 combo already in it and use everything in your rig. They are out there dirt cheap it's easier to buy the whole rig and sell or scrap what you don't need. The t-case is the same but a different input spline count.SO if you want to use yours you need to swap from a 21 spline input to a 23 spline, again it's easier to use the one from the donor YJ.

If you have the entire wiring harness it work but on the other hand like highlandercj-7 said there are better donors out there cheap. I just put a xj 4.0 head and injection on my 89yj 258 block and I found a lot of the info I needed on forums like this one(thank you to all that posted that info it helped)

I found one that was specifically for your swap. I'll to post it if I can find it

By the way, it runs great 100% better.
