Default deal?

Hi

How good of a deal is this?

Should I jump?

Dana 44 ARB...
Dana 44 ARB $$$400$$$ - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

I've got a compressor on my Jeep to power it so that's not a problem...

Is the rust an indication of something not so good or won't it really matter on the outside of the case like that?

Thanks,
Patrick

I would not let that little bit of rust worry me, but like all used parts you can not inspect it is gamble, and you may need more parts then shown.

I would ask if it comes with the shims, solenoid and orings. Last time I looked about 3 years ago, shims where another $35, new orings where another $15. Solenoids show up on ebay from time to time for about $40. It would be a good idea to replace the orings anyway. Also I would replace the bearings. The bottom one is the stock bearing, the one on top by the oring groves is the same as the inner wheel bearing for a GM 10 bolt (about $25), (which is much easier for the parts guys then giving them numbers).

So all total with parts that a new one would come with should you need to buy them you are looking at about $540. About 3 years ago I got a new ARB with all parts for $700. So the question is are you greater then 77% sure there is nothing wrong with it. If it does not come with the parts listed above I would ask them to knock another $100 off the price.

good points as far as thinking about the additional parts...I would have never thought of that...I think it's a what you see in the picture is what you get...

shims would be necessary when setting up the gears or the ARB unit? I'm building this axle from scratch (well...I'm helping someone build it for me) so I planned on replacing seals/bearings/whatever else is needed

though I think current prices on an ARB are around $850 (maybe I'm just looking in the wrong spot though...)

as far as solenoids I've found these two threads that are interesting...cheaper replacement than an ARB solenoid...

Thanks!

You use the standard shims and bearings on one side of the carrier, on the other side with the orings you will need to use special ARB shims, and a nonstandard bearing and race. I got the ARB shims off the net somewhere, if the picture is everything you get you will need the master shim as well. The Bear on oring side is not the standard carrier bearing but it is common, new ARBs come with this bearing and race. If you need a new one it is the same as a Chevy front 10 bolt inner wheel bearing and race.

As for New ARB prices they vary a lot from place to place I got one for $700 from a ebay store "TheusedJeep".

There is no need to use ARB solenoids, as you have found there are other solenoid valves out there. I am setting up to use manual valves, the ones I found are Clippard model TV-3S, they where about $6 each used on ebay. If you find you need a ARB solenoid valve I have 2 here with all the fittings they come with I would sell for $40 each.
