| | Way to many Vacuum lines
Well Im done with the pretty stuff on my 84 Cj-7 for now ,, Now Im into the 258 6 banger ,, It has way to many vacuum lines to suit me,, Think maybe I could get some of these out of the way since it will never see a Smog test,, I tryed looking in the search & found everything but what I needed,, Anyone ever done this & can give me some pointers.. It has a Carb that looks like a single barrel from the top side but ever parts store Iv been to says its a 2 barrel & sold me a 2 barrel gasket that fits the bottom of the carb ,, For a buck fifty ,, It dose have a boat load of wires going in the back of it ,,
I have another question on the fan clutch should it have any movement front to back ?? I think I have to repalce that,, It moves about 1/8 of a inch back & forth ..
Hope you guys understand Im not new to AMCs just their 6 bangers ,,

On my '83 CJ7 I only have three... one for the distributor advance, one for the MAP sensor (Howell TBI) and one to draw off the fumes from the fuel tank to the PVC and air cleaner. Everything else has been removed.
The fan clutch should not have movement front to back.

Well as not to sound dum but what is the MAP sensor (Howell TBI) This is the newest jeep That I have ever owned ,, My 81 360 was stripped of everthing so when I put it back in the 74 frame I will run all the lines as if it was the 74,, My 05 Libby (its not a real jeep anyway) dont count I let the local Jeep people work on that,, There is somekind of manafold at the rear of the Valve cover That has a lot going on what is that??about 4 or 5 hoses coming & going..

Maybe the best way to go about it is to remove everything and then put back on what you need. In the old days - there were only two vacuum lines - one to the distributor and one to the windshield wiper motor. Then they added vacuum boost brakes and it went downhill from there.
I would run a vacuum line from the venturi source on the carb to the distributor, one from manifold vac to the PCV valve, and one to the charcoal canister if the Jeep has it. Then quit. Well, OK, you can have boosted brakes if you're a girly man.

About half of the vacuum lines there affect smog....the other half are there to improve driveability. You can hack them off....but it's not going to run any better....in fact, it will most likely run worse.
And....you say Maryland does not have smog now....that is now....chances are they will in the near future....
Do another search on putting hoses back for smog....you will find plenty of horror stories of guys scrambling to put all of their emissions gear back on.

Well I got the fan clutch last night Storming here today so when it stops Ill put it on,,
As far as Maryland goes they have it every two years on all cars & trucks under 10k regestered with tags newer than 25 yrs old,, Its going to be regestered as Historical so no inspection is needed of any kind ,, I know if every tree hugger out there had there way they would have us crush our older jeeps but if push comes to shove Ill just put a motor in her that didnt have the smog stuff like a 343 , 390 as they go by the Vin number on the motor ,, That goes for my 3b project with the 360 in her,,There are ways around smog crap even if the Dems are in charge now .. I think Ill take Leve's advice & put on what I need, & yes it dose have Power brakes & power steering My 3b (going on my 74 frame) dosent tho ,, no power brakes or power steering ether,,
