Elephants
Correct. All other mammals can jump, but now I'm sure there will be arguments since there is a 'Correct' answer.
|
A three-toed sloth can't jump - it can hardly even stand on its feet. A walrus can't jump - it can barely drag itself on dry land, as can an elephant seal. Some of the big whales can't get more than a small portion of their body out of the water, and I wonder about a rhinocerous and a hippopotpmous.

Nope, wasn’t writing anything here. You are as wrong in your conclusion as you are to the answers to your quiz questions.
I’ve had the granddaughter since hours before you started this thread. We’ve made several trips to the pool, went to the Chalk & Walk, finished the Father’s Day present she was making for her daddy, bought balloons and got stuff wrapped, among other things. We’ve been busy. I was up past midnight washing dishes and then got up before 6:30 this morning to make her breakfast before I took her home this morning.
As for Dale, I don’t think he comes around every day or even every week. I base that on some of the posts he has made to some pretty old threads but I don’t know for sure. You’re just too impatient.
You seem to think that you can bother us on a personal level as bad as we bother you. Quote:

At any rate, there doesn’t seem to be much need for us in this thread. Seems like your lies and misinformation is being exposed for what it is pretty well already. Quote:

Now, that is by volume but even if he wants it by item quantity, it’s still not hydrogen. Quote:

I didn’t even think of the sloth but it came up when I Googled. Seems there are some bats that can’t jump either. There are many sea/ocean mammals that can’t jump.
Don’t let him tell you that a dolphin can jump just because it can build up enough speed to ‘jump’ out of the water. We’d have to take his elephant to a rooftop and prove it could ‘jump’ too.
On the mosquito bites and clothing, many, many say that dark clothing attracts them, any dark color. Some say there is a particular order of color preferences. Some say mixing dark and light shades attracts them. Some say you should wear clothes that blend in with the surroundings. A very few claim that light clothing attracts them. The most widely accepted answer is that it is inconclusive and that no particular color, hue or mixture has been shown to make any difference.
This one is getting pretty cryptic: Quote:

In the second quote, first it’s the patent not the device, then it IS the device. I ain’t gonna worry myself trying to figure out what answer he wants.
Looks like things are under control. Carry on. I’ve got things to do. Breakfast dishes need washing. I need to clean up the house for next time. Seems like my life this summer is her being here, cleaning up after she leaves and getting ready for her to come back. I’m really gonna hate it when she goes back to school. Maybe I’ll hang around here more when I have time to get bored.

Most whales 'Jump' out of the water for breeding displays,
And the way seals, sea lions, walruses navigate land is by 'Jumping' since it's the only way they can move that much bulk.
Rhinoceros and Hippos have been filmed jumping rocks and tree trunks, and in some cases, other animals when chasing predators or during breeding rituals.
If you want to argue the sloth, then take it up with the zoologists that declared the elephant to the the only animal that doesn't have the muscles or skeletal structure to 'Jump'...
----------------------------------
I'm surprised Jim, I though you would have taken a crack at one of the more difficult, and less well known 'Trivia' questions...
I actually expected you to get the one about which patent has produced the most income!
-----------------------------------
I see taz posted up, I sure it's full of excuses, rebuttals, cut & paste stuff he claims is 'Proof'...
Mostly means he couldn't really answer any of the questions on his own, and google let him down...

Let’s see if I have this right. You created a thread especially tailored for Dale and I. When neither of us replied quickly enough to suit you, you try to goad us into replying, in two different threads. When I do post a reply, you claim you didn’t read it.
Is that your story?

Let me see Jim,
According to the little fact book here... Quote:
Quote Accredited To The American Zoological Society: "The Elephant, both African and Asian varieties, lack the fast twitch muscle tissue to allow them to be able to jump.
Lack of the fast twitch muscle tissue, and connection points that would allow leverage for the animal to jump keep it firmly grounded.
That makes the Elephant the only mammal type in the animal kingdom that does not possess the capacity to jump." | -------------------------------------------
As for the most abundant thing in the Universe... Quote:
Quote Credited To, The American Astronomical Society (AAS): The most abundant element in the universe is hydrogen, which makes up about 3/4 of all matter! Helium makes up most of the remaining 25%. Oxygen is the third most abundant element in the universe. All of the other elements are relatively rare. | ----------------------------------------------------
Sill waiting for 'Correct' answers for the rest of the questions!
Which mechanical patent has raked in the most money down through the years?
What color cloths are most likely to get you mosquito bit?
What Fish is ALWAYS hungry?

| | We might need a clarification on that term “animal kingdom”. Was it meant to include Neptune’s kingdom? Your question was, “What is the only mammal that can't jump?” I would assume from, “… keep it firmly grounded”, the author may have only been considering land animals when he makes his conclusion in the next sentence. | | Easy to see your problem here. You have to get the question right to get the answer you expected.
That hydrogen atom is full of that space you say doesn’t exist. The next “most plentiful thing in the universe”, as we know it, would be a tie between electrons and protons. Quote:

You already accepted an answer for, “What color cloths are most likely to get you mosquito bit?” even though you got it screwed up. Quote:

Completely non-scientific, but they seem to bother me less when I wear bright yellow and more when I wear brown.
| You would be correct, lighter colors will get you bit faster according to the 'Experts'... |

Yeah, that "firmly grounded" phrase also excludes consideration of the sloths.

Firmly Grounded would indicate you are still on the Elephant thing...
I couldn't remember exactly what the deal was until I looked it up again,
'Fast twitch' muscle was the answer that was escaping me,
Without voluntary fast twitch muscle you can't make too many sudden movements... Explains why every video and zoo visit where I've seen elephants they seem to be moving very deliberately...
That and trying to control 3 tons of mass can't be easy either!
The same article goes on to say that the American Manatee and Australian Dugong are relatives to the elephant, but DO posses fast twitch muscle and can 'Jump' on landings or partially out of the water.
I've seen Manatees up close and personal several times, and I REALLY would have never guessed they were related to elephants, or that they can 'Jump'... Very slow, gentle, deliberate creatures.
-------------------------------
Don't know about 'Sloths', not my field of expertise... Not even CLOSE!
I'm just going by what the Experts in the field say...
(Not really interested in what a 'Google Expert' might have to say about it!
But I hope they spend MONTHS diligently working night and day to 'PROVE' this stuff 'Wrong'!) Still waiting for guesses on the rest of the QUESTIONS!

Sloths are those critters that live in trees, hanging upside down from the branches and, I think, may never come down to the ground. They move at glacial speed. They're the source of the term slothful, describing a slow-moving, lazy person. From seeing movies of them, I'm reasonably sure that they have no fast-twitch muscles. They move so slowly that it can take ten or fifteen seconds to re-position one grip on a branch.

TR, you are really a piece of work. Ask for someone to address your highness and then put them on ignore?
