Ya win some, ya loose some. It's what you do with the outcome that's shows your true metal.

Glad no one was hurt in this shower of parts. It's not fun, I blew up a FS '84 Bronco, at night, at 65mph. It was impressive. The wife was screaming when the rod and piston went through the block and broke out the starter motor. The starter motor went slidin' 150' away from the Bronco and the kids were just screaming in sheer delight. They loved the noise, the sparks and the flame.

Me, I just coasted into a parking lot and astonished that I could enjoy the moment like the kids did...

On the bright side every cloud has a silver lining... I did buy a FS '85 Waggie to replace the Bronco.

It seems like you've got a good winter project on your hands. Did you ever figure out why the engine flew apart? I was able to trace the problem with the Bronco down to fuel delivery. It had been running rich. This Bronco had a 300 I6 engine with a first generation feed back carb. I could never get the darn thing to run smooth. Lean it out... and it died on acceleration. Enrich the fuel and it blew black smoke. What's a guy to do? So, I did the best I could... and, as usual, it wasn't good enough. The cylinders washed down and that started the cascade of one cylinder's failure.

Best of luck on getting the next engine in and the Jeep up and running.
