As the old saying goes --

DON'T GET MAD, GET EVEN!

As public employees they are under a lot more scrutiny than most people. Get whatever information you can on them and make it public!

Get the entire town riled up! If they've approved things for others and not for you - bribes are indicated, true or not. Let them have to deal with denying it publicly. All you need to do is ask the question publicly, then the problem of denial is theirs.

Rio, People tend to say different things in private than they do at public meetings. If you want to get them on record ask the important question at a public meeting. Or have your lawyer come to the meeting and ask them for you. The answers will be part of the meeting minutes and also public record. People will look at you different if you drag a lawyer to a meeting. I was getting ripped off by a local sewer authority on a bill and brought my lawyer to the meeting. We walked in an 2 board members piped up and said "Mr so and so to what do we owe this honor?". He said believe it or not we want to pay our sewer bill. The amount we feel is fair, not what you billed my client. Thier attitude changed significantly. End result I DID pay the amt. I thought was fair. The lawyer charged me a steak dinner. I got off light on that one . Don't give up!

I have a few attorneys who would do that for free, but I don't believe I need them. If I was violating something then I could see a need, if I had been to the point of being unjustly charged such as you, I would get one, If we were to the point of civil action I would be concerned.

At this point I am defending against a person with an axe to grind and no grounds for which to grind it. I think this can be won a diffrent way, but if that dosent work I will have to pony up some steak dinners!!!

Good to hear about the sewer bill. I had a water bill like that years ago and the town looked at 6 months of bills charged me an average on the sewer and I paid the full amount for water usage. I thought that was fair. The floor drain in my basement drains into an old sistern not into the city sewer, so it worked out.

A lawyer might not be needed at this point, but the presence of one gets everybody's attention. Then they know you're serious and have resources to back you up. That can bring a quick resolution where it might drag on a long time otherwise. Well worth a big steak dinner to get it over with.

He He - That's kinda like bringing a machine gun to a knife fight. It sure gets their attention. It lets them know you are serious. He doesn't even have to say anything, just his presence is probably enough. I used a friend in an expensive suit to do similar in a real eastate deal going bad, he just "looked like" an important attorney, he only scowled at the appropriate times, he never said a word. It worked.

At a public meeting - ask why you are being singled out, show where others weren't. Ask why????

There's always a bunch of do-gooders and busy-bodies that hate politicians and their go-fers to start yelling extortion and other crooked things. Let them do the embarrassing part. All you need to do is get it started, other similar cases will come up. First thing ya know it's a big fracas.

Remember what happened to that Senator that put his hand under the restroom wall - the accusers and yellers weren't even there.

A buddy of mine has a trick. He is a loud-mouthed, quick-thinking, intimidating SOB. He will make a call for his buddies and say he is representing that buddy. Anyone can represent anyone, it means nothing. He spouts some legal terms and threats, tells his name and hangs up. He never says he is a lawyer, he never says he knows law. Funny how everyone that gets the call assumes he is a lawyer though
