| | Dash Knob Nuts?
I've seen them advertised...stainless steel....you know, the little nuts that hold the fan speed, wiper and head light switchs on....
I made replacement collars out of stainless....but, with my new dash and overlay, the threaded shaft is not quite long enough...but that is another issue....
Any links?

Are you talking about the knobs or the nuts? I have the knobs, work fine, just don't remember where my nuts are
Just buy the cables again, they probably need replacing, then you can have nuts.

I think he needs something similar to barrel nuts, to reach through his fancy dash and grab the threads on the swithes.
John, if you do that are the long nuts going to let the knobs go all the way in? Don't you just love the way these simple projects get out of hand?

If nothing else, drill the original dash holes way over sized so the cable only uses the ones in the overlay. That should bring back your threads.

I think he needs something like this 477.jpg
that will reach through the instrument panel and grab the threads on his switches and things.

Isn't that very similar to the Headlight Switch nut... IIRC, a FOMOCO part?

Don't know about that, but any nut made for a sheet metal panel isn't going to be long enough.

Jim...the nut you show is 'exactly' what I need. The thickness of the new aluminum dash and composite overlay leaves me about 1 thread showing....couple in the shoulder of the collar and the stock nut will not get it.
When I first made this post, I was missing one of the SS collars that I had made....now I'm only missing one nut....but, finding that nut will not solve my problem....but the 'extended' nut would.....
Where do I get that nut?

Of course, I can make them, but first try a fiberglass body manufacturer.
