Default Board problems

For the last few days Mozilla Firefox sometimes crashes when I direct it to the last post in a thread. When I get Firefox reloaded it will sometimes go to the last post, sometimes crash again. I just checked - there are no updates available. Anybody else having problems?

I've been using Firefox 3.0.1 in both XP and Vista with no problems... Have you upgraded?

Interesting. Firefox says it's version 2.0.0.16, but no updates are available. It just ran an update a few days ago, after which the trouble started, although not immediately, IIRC. This is running on 2000. I have XP on one computer, but I don't regularly use that one on the net - it does my design and bookkeeping, so I don't like to expose it. XP is so Mickey Mouse I'm going to hold off installing it unless I absolutely have to.

If it keeps happening I'll have to go look for version 3.

Let me guess. You didn’t go to Start – Settings – Control Panel – Display and select Windows Classic under Theme.

Yeah, Taz, I did do that, but not until after I had been to the search function in Windows Explorer and seen that little floppy-eared dog digging for the file I needed. My poor brain almost exploded.

Then it took days to get my LAN working, and I had to enter a log-on password and identical log-on name and password on all my other computers to get it to work. What a crock of ! There must be a way to defeat that - probably a reg edit - but I don't have time to look for it now. I've wasted too much time on it already.

And just knowing that the M. Mouse stuff is there is a constant irritation. I wish they'd expend their efforts on making an OS instead of an entertainment system.

And then they spend more time and effort to turn off the nonsense! Sheesh! It's turned off, but it's still there, taking up resources. Yeah, it's a Mickey Mouse OS, for sure!

Have you looked for any loose nuts behind the keyboard?

With any luck I'll never have to go to Vista. In another ten years or so I'll probably be done with computers. With any luck Microsoft will produce a no-nonsense OS for adults - an update of 2000. Or maybe it's already here. I am going to see if Linux will run my CAD software. If it does I'll dump XP in a heartbeat.

John, there aren't any loose nuts behind the keyboard, but there's at least one in front of it.
