Default New Dash Almost Done

Here are some progress pics of the dash for my 84 CJ...

To explain why I'm doing what I'm doing....
I recently installed a full roll cage in the jeep...the front hoops go down 'through' the dash....hence, the funning looking elongated cutouts at each end. This created two issues with the stock dash...the speaker grills were in the way....and the glove box was too close to the right side...it was not into the box but the door would not have closed.

I 'tried' to cut my original dash...cut out the glove box and then re-weld it closer to the center and then make a new end piece....well, the tig welding was not as clean as I would have liked it.

So, I bought a new dash with NO speaker or glove box cutouts. Speakers were in a bad location anyway (I'll be installing some in a sound bar). I then cut out the opening of my existing glove box, cut a new opening in the dash close to the inst cluster and screwed it in. I then cut out the openings to clear the roll cage.

This is the result...before I take it down to have it powder coated. The dash overlay is REAL carbon fiber....same material that the Boeing 787 fuselage is being made out of.....don't ask where I got the material....the son of my next door neighbor works at a machine shop and was kind enough to mill out the proper shape.

I'll post some pics once I have the dash (aluminum part) powder coated).

Ohh pretty! I like SS dashes, but you have to wear shades to drive it!

Black powdercoating would look much better

How about a biometric lock on the glove? You know you want < 1sec unlock, since you can...

When you coming up next John? Your sushi is getting cold...

Now you went and made me hungry.....yea...I need to get up there...nothing in the works right now...everyone is running fine....

As for the lock....I still need to get one of those boxes...the little guys are starting to get too interested in my 'tools'....I'm getting the "Can I touch it?".....and for the rest of you, NO, I am NOT talking about body parts...

Actually, I plan to incorporate something into the center console when I build that....like a hidden pop out door...

BTW Scott...nice pics of your daughter.....you might want to leave your box unlocked for faster access to keep the guys away.....take no prisoners...

Got the dash back from the powder coater.....only $40......

Just need to put in the lights....and see if I can find a couple of idiot lights.

Should have it in the jeep by this weekend.....then I won't have to guess about how much gas I have......

Looks great. I am impressed with the real carbon fiber! You are going to show up all those kids in Honda Civics with the fake carbon fiber and the coffee can exhausts! (You aren't putting on a coffee can exhaust, are you? )

Oh, so you think I actually want the gauges to work? I just wanted them there for looks.

Yea...right.....actually...good question.....I'm thinking I should mabe start another thread on the subject. I think we talked about it once....

I think someone suggested using the blank plug on the left side of the 4L60 tranny housing...someone else said the pan....another said the cooling lines (in or out?). So many choices....so few beers...

This weekend is going to be fun.....my wife is at a childrens book writing confrence all weekend so I'm taking Fri and Mon off from work to watch the kids.....between yard work, house work, jeep work and kid work, I hope to get a lot done.....which reminds me....I need to go to the store tonight and stock up on chips and salsa....."the breakfast of champions"...
