Default Speakers

Does anyone know what is the normal size of the speakers are on a 1985 CJ7 Jeep? They look like they are 4 to 5 inches has anyone replaced theres and what have they used? Could i get decent sound with just the 2 in dash instead of having to have speakers in the back for someone to easly take anyways? Thanks for your help

I chose to install fiero seats in my CJ, they've got speakers built into the head-rests. They don't take up space, not easily thieved, and you can hear your radio at 70mph with the top off. Oh, and even the passengers in the back seat can hear it too.

4".....

And I don't have mine any more....I'm putting in a new dash...this one does NOT have the speaker grill cutouts which solves a lot of problems for me (I'll be posting pictures in the next day or two).

Leve's solution is a good one....in my case, I'll be making a sound bar to go on my new wazu roll cage.

Crutchfield says 5.25", but I don't think my 81 CJs were that big. What I did was, I took a piece of paper and mashed it across the speaker studs, making a template. I took it to Walmart and matched it to some cheapies, Audiovox I think. I figured they were going to get wet anyway.
