I wouldn't use the STP. I'd go with SeaFoam. It'll clean out the oil galleys slicker'n slugs through a goose.
Remember, when you do something like this... be prepared for unintended consequences. The darn thing may just pop a leak here or there, find a weakened freeze plug. So, if that happens, don't be dismayed... just deal with it.
His initial problem was low oil pressure, which Sea Foam won't help and might exacerbate. Only use for here Sea Foam is if the pickup screen is partially clogged with gunk. I wouldn't expect that to be a problem unless the engine has been thoroughly sludged.
I'd stick with the STP.

Skip the STP. Use heavier weight oil like a 15w-40 and buy Auto-Rx if you want to do any cleaning. STP is not so good stuff. Get a 50 grade if need be.
Using STP:
You aren't trying to clean anything.
You aren't trying to thicken the oil.
But you ARE trying to find out WHY it clatters.
STP will help with the lubrication. It's thick coming out of the can, but once mixed it isn't thick any longer.
Use 30 or 40 wt with the STP. Even if you are the few ounces overfull from the small can of STP you are still safe.
Multi vis oils have the additive that makes them multi-viscosity - it radically cuts down the lubrication quality. Notice high horsepower performance engines that really need good lubrication NEVER use a multi vis oil. Notice how thin 15-40 wt is on your fingers. Now try 40wt to compare. Then try STP on your fingers - you can see THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!
You are trying to FIND OUT whether you need to do mechanical work or not. This will help you find out! For cheap too! Much cheaper and easier than experimenting with a new oil pump, bearings etc.
If it still clatters and has the same troubles, THEN worry about further repairs.
Some don't believe in doing things the simple way - especially when it's not theirs.
