Large Tool Storage......getting in the way....any ideas

seems like I've been slowly accumulating more and more large tools.....

transmission jack
regular floor jack
the welder on its cart
portable blacksmith forge on cart
the other day i bought a Hoist, the sheet metal brake, and a 20Ton hydraulic press
etc....


does anyone have an good and clever ways to store all the "big" tools that i cant stuff in a drawer? these are starting to add up and now i have to jump over things in my garage. It doesn't help that I have an engine and trans on dollies on the ground either

so far my appraoch has been to try to get everything on wheels so i can move it around.....but this cant be the only solution, can it? I plan to move someday in the semi-near future....but not just yet

knock down a wall and expand! or get bigger drawers!

Can you put a garden shed near by so that you can roll them into the shop when they're needed? If you can get just the ones you don't use every day out of the way it will help a lot.

all the ground outside my garage is uphill....so a shed would work except that I'd have to roll whatever uphill in the grass to get to it and the wheels on shop tools don't tend to be "all-terrain"

whenever i finish my kitchen and put the house for sale, I'm going to be looking for a house with a Morton building or something.

In the mean time the only thing i can think of is a shelving system for the smaller of the big tools....like jacks and stuff......

Thats a tough one if you can't expand or build a small shop. How about building a couple of mobile carts that have wheels that you can pull out of the garage when you are working and then pull back in when you are finished? Heck you have bought alot already, buy you a pallet jack and build you some moveable platforms

the space problem is just going to get worse when i start taking the body off the frame!!!

I think some parts can go in the attic of the garage....but I dont think the tub will fit through the attic door

I think I'd just:

• Pick one out side or back of the garage thats flat
• Build a 10'X15" weather tight addition on the chosen wall
• Install an access door between the garage and the addition
• Install a wood floor
• Store the large stuff there

What worked for me for a while is I built a bench and made only a few legs down to the ground. Then I can stow jacks and the like under there. My welder and tortch set still take up wall space but much of the rest is under the bench. My new shop will have pallett racking in it for just such storage.

All you need is a Teleporter. Have you noticed that on the Star Trek shows they never seem to have this problem. And anything that needs to be fixed is covered by only one panel.
