My welder on its cart is rolled under a bench.

My engine hoist is a fold-up type, and it sits between the 2 cars in my 2-car garage.

I've got 3 flathead ford V8 motors in the garage right now. One on an engine stand, rolled up against a workbench (with welder underneath.) I'm building this motor. The other 2 flathead motors (for parts) are on roll-around dollies, rolled up against the garage wall.

The floor jack is under a low shelf of a bench - swing the handle down, slide under low shelf.

One garage wall has the tool boxes. Large rollaway type, and a workbench.

Other wall is all shelves.

Third wall has the parts washer, two of the flathead motors on dollies, the two doors for my Model A, and miscellaneous wood blocks, etc.

Fouth wall are the 2 doors.

And the Jag and the Model A are inside.

Utilize your wall space intelliegntly, and don't overlook storing things in unnatural positions (like lowering the handle on the floor jack and sliding under a bench.)

Good luck
Pete

Can you "break down" any of the large tools? An engine hoist can be broken down into several managable pieces (re-install the bolts so you don't loose them) and stored in a smaller space.

If you aren't working on an engine, take it off the engine stand. Build your moving cart for that and stuff it under a work bench.

Also, if you organize your "daily" tools towards the front of the garage, you can use the driveway to expand your working area. This doesn't work so well if you live in a nasty climate. But every little move adds up.

Get the seldom used tools out of the way, put them in the "dead zones" of the garage, and then get back to work!!

How 'bout a small covered utility trailer? Move it close to load it, back it up the hill when you aren't needing it.
The only concern is someone making off with the trailer full of goodies - secure it good.

shelving.. put as much as you can on it and your larger items keep on the floor.. put them on wheels/carts or whatnot to move them around when you need space/or too use.. i bought some large industrial shelves and they can hold a lot weight.. i have bins on it full of jeep parts.. some of those bins are well over 100 pounds.. you could do something like that and put a long the side of the garage.. just build a roof.. or use a tarp for it..

pullys and rope? hang one tool and park another under it.

A couple of years ago I bought a car storage lift new from texas for $1800, I see that Nothern Tool has them now for $1900. Very handy, put whatever you want on it, lift it up and walk (almost) under it.

That would be sweet if i had more height.....my ceilings are only 8-9 ft inside....

I'm going to try to add move shelves for some of the stuff that isnt as heavy, and then park some of the bigger stuff underneath....

Yeah, what Aaron said. I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze a bead blast cabinet and a roll former into the shop.
