| | OT half ton diesels Hi
Just doing a little bit of searching I'm seeing info about Toyos coming out with a diesel Tundra in 09 or 10...has been annouced by Toyo but not many details...at least that I've found...SEMA tundra had an 8L...more are predicting something close to a 6L will go into production... They talked about partnering with Isuzu and I thought I read something about Duramax...Does Isuzu make the Duramax brand diesel?
Ford's putting a 4.4L diesel in the F150 for 2010...numbers of 330 horses and 520 lb-ft of torque...anybody put those numbers into perspective for me? Good, bad, okay? Underpowered/overpowered/just right to pull my Jeep?
In my current search (which wouldn't result in a purchase until at least one kid is out of day care...which would be fall of 2009)...I've been dead set on Ford (various reasons...none probably good ones)...But recently I have been looking at the newer tundras...I had a 95 Taco (not called a taco then) that was the best truck I ever owned...better than my s10, my silverado, and my current dakota...which is why my renewed interest in the new Tundras...
I would like to stay with a smaller truck...ie not a one ton crew cab long box...
Any thoughts?
Thanks for listening to my constant talk about tow rigs...my wife is about to slap me silly...she doesn't understand why I'm thinking about it so much since it's at least a year and a half away...probably 2 and a half...
Thanks
Patrick

| | Toyota's diesel branch is Hino. That's the engine in all their big trucks and what was in that 1 ton dually prototype you speak of. Toyota has also been very connected with Cat over the last few years and theirs been a lot of speculation about that. As for Isuzu, yes the Duramax engine is an Isuzu design built in Ohio in a GM plant. Are you aware of all the trouble Ford/ Navistar diesels have had since 2003??? Do you really want a first year diesel from Ford??? Take a look at the Cummins V6 and V8 that are supposed to be offered in 2009-2010 in their half tons, this would be a safer choice.
Good luck,
Aaron.

| | I knew that Ford had troubles with the 6.0 when it first came out in 2003...hadn't heard of any problems with the 6.4 that came out but I haven't really listened/asked...
I would shy away from the first year run if I can though...
It's a long ways a way and I'll probably change my mind 100 times...and probably won't be able to afford those trucks anyway...
More feedback is always appreciated!
Thanks!
Patrick

| | While I love my ford, I have to agree Aaron has a point.
I am not thrilled with their new offerings. My 99 has the last 7.3 in it and I am happy to have it. No issues to speak of. I hvae heard alot about the toyotas, but it is all speculation at this point. |

| | Rumor has it that Dodge will be have a downsized Cummins offering for the 1/2ton market in the next few years... Quote: |

| My VE pumped 12V CTD came with 160HP/400TQ (measured at flywheel) from the factory. IIRC, those are about the base numbers for some of the later CTDs? Leads me to think it'll be a "high revving" mill like 6.0L, but should drag a load just fine... |

| | IIRC, Jeep's introducing a TRD to the US market this year. So, all ya gotta do is wait a year, or two, till they start showing up in wecking yards and transplant them. |
