I measured from the outside face of the flange (not including wheel studs or the pilot boss for the brakes) to the end of the splines/shaft.

if you had that, I would be most appreciative!

Going from the tip of the splines to the bearing stop.... Wide trac.....
Long side...26, 1/4

Short side...23,1/2

Here is something to watch out for.. I bought a set off ebay and they were mix matched axles... One of them was a Moser shaft that used OEM seals and bearings. I still havent figure out what brand the other is but it doesn't use an OEM seal. The seal is bigger and hard to find one that would work. After dealing with leaks for a couple of months I called Moser and told them the story and asked them if they could sell me the one side. The guy charged me $115 bucks and when I got it, he sent me both sides for that price After putting the new one in, I had a brain fart and realized I could have had the other shaft turned down to fit the OEM seal

thanks!!!

is that the inside of the bearing stop or the outside

and how much extra length does measuring from the flange add.

Thats to the inside of the bearing stop. It was allmost 2" to the flange. I have to go get the kids from school but I will measure it when I get back.

28 long
25 short
That was a quick measure, maybe another 1/4 to it would be about right. I'll check it again and get the right measurement for you...

The Superior Axle and Gear installation guide gives a measurement from the center of the differential to the end of the tubes (brake backing plate).

Narrow Drivers Side 21 3/4"
Narrow Passenger Side 24 3/4"
Wide Drivers Side 23 15/16"
Wide Passenger Side 27 1/16"
Quadratrac Drivers Side 29"
Quadratrac Passenger Side 17 1/2"

You measured 23 1/4" and 26 1/4" from WMS to the end of the shaft. Exactly 1 1/2 difference from above, that gets you out to WMS.

Narrow WMS to WMS is 50 1/2" your axles = 49 1/2" together and that should be good because there is a thrust block in the middle of the differential.

Hope that makes it clearer.

As you sell those narrow one piece axles please advise the buyer that it's going to take about $150 (or more) for new bearings, retainer rings and seals. The bearings are not standard wheel bearings and the bearing retainer ring is a special press fit so that it stays together.

Do you know what brand those axles are?

Dale

thanks!

that was very helpful!

I'm not sure what brand they are...I was going to sell them as is for 25$ or so on a local jeep msg board with the note that they will need new bearings and such.

thanks again

If they use the OEM bearings and seals it shouldn't cost that much!!! I don't think I paid over $80 for everything. The bearings I purchased from O'Reilly's came with the retaining ring. That was about four years ago so maybe it could be that much now.

Anyway, from the tip to the flange this is what I got.
28, 1/4
25, 7/16 Would be 25, 1/2 if it was another Moser shaft. The flange is thicker on the Moser's

Well don't ever say that commercial competition isn't a good thing...

EV20KIT

A few years ago, before there were several different AMC20 One Piece Axle Kits, the (EV20KIT) Superior kit was $80 per side and then shipping. Good to know that if I need them the price is much better now.

But remember that AMC20 one piece axles DO NOT use the standard wheel bearing that the original two piece axles did. They are SET-9 bearings and the retainer needs to match the axle. The seals are not different between the two type axles.

SET-9 Bearings are a thrust bearing, the stock wheel bearings are not.

That's rather incomplete...

Do your own research or just ask...

Basic design of the two piece original axles is that the two axles and bearings create a preloaded bearing set through the thrust block in the differential carrier. Something of a PITA to set up correctly.

Design of the one piece aftermarket axles do not use the thrust block, the axle shafts are just a little bit shorter, and the bearings are setup with their own preload on each side. Simple setup and a stronger axle, bearing... Life is good.

I got to thinking about the bearings and seals and Im thinking that I used the OEM seal but I got the part# off one of the bearings on the used shafts and bought them that way through O'Reilly's. I still think the price was about right but like I said that was several years ago....
