I'm applying for a job in Albuquerque, it's an Autos/ small engine/ avionics teaching job at Volcano Vista High School. Anyone know anything about Volcano Vista High school/ New Mexico's shop programs? What's life like in Alburquerque?

ABQ is a beautiful city. The weather is great and there's skiing close by. The traffic sucks. Good wheeling reasonably close. Knowing Spanish is a HUGE plus in that area. I've spent quite a bit of time in ABQ and the surrounding area. The food is great also. It's a VERY liberal area along with close by Santa Fe......tree huggers abound.

I've been there many times on business....and just passing through....
As noted above....
Hot in the summer...cold in the winter....Don't expect a lot of trees and grass....it's mostly desert......but it has the beautiful red clay look.....lots of culture.....though I wouldn't quite agree with the necessity of needing to speak Spanish.....
Plenty to do...and for the most part you are pretty central to a lot of stuff....plenty to see and do with in 6 hours or less....
It's also a growing city.....now would seem like a good time to go there....
Sandia Labs is one of the big employers there....lot of high tech in the area.

I haven't been to Albuquerque in years... Like 10 or 12 years.
Seem to remember lots of hard working and playing folks that didn't want to mess up your day. Just good folks and lots of very good Mexican Food. I think that I just played pool every night that I was there.
Some places change. Ignore this post if that's the case.

I was transplant to Albuq from San Diego my senior year in high school. I'm not a big fan of the town and or the people. This past summer I spent allot of time there taking care of my Mom. This was the most time I have spent there since I left 13 years ago. The town has grown but again I'm not a big fan of the people. To simply put it, people are punks there. Everyone walks around as if they have something to prove. A good friend of mine is a top cop there and I even see it when I'm hanging out with him on duty so i know it's not just me.
Now as far as the country side, well you have a winner! I love the mountains and all the history of the Indians and old Mexico. Taos is one the best ski areas and is one of the few areas that don't allow snow boarding. New Mexico is where I first learned to 4x4. There is allot of open area and places to explore. So with all that said there is allot o do in NM it's just the people that keep me away. My Dad grew up in NM and every time he comes to San Diego on business he always asks me why he moved back to NM. Unfortunately my Mom passed away in Aug and my Dad and Step Mom travel back here to San Diego so much that I think it will be a while before I see Albuquerque again.
I'm not sure if this helps just wanted to trow in my two cents.
