Red face How much Primer needed

Can someone with prior experience give me a ballpark estimate of how much epoxy primer is needed to cover an entire 1980 CJ-7, assuming the tub (top and bottom), fenders, hood, gril and windshield frame are coated? Thanks for your help.

You might be able to get away with a gallon but I think you would be cutting it very close. I used a gallon on my
CJ8 and that was with out doing the under side and the inside, They got the bedliner treatment. Are you having it sandblasted? If so the finish will determin how much primer and sanding you do, Thats why I used a gallon on the outer tub, hood and fenders. Oh and I got the doors with it also!

I used about 1/2 gallon on just the outside of my CJ7. I did not paint the inside or the bottom. I did not use Epoxy, if that makes a difference. -- Mike

Thanks for the info guys. I'm planning on having the tub sandblasted and the inside of the tub and firewall linexed. Hadn't thought about having the underside linexed also. I'm going to consider it. My thought is to spray the primer ASAP after sandblasting to prevent rust and then have the linex applied.

You might want to talk to who ever your going to have do the Linex. Most places prefer the bare metal. They don't have to worry about the paint underneath being the failure to the liner coming up! You might want to hit it with etching primer on the surfaces you plan on painting and then do any body work needed and then when thats done hit it with the epoxy primer to seal everything. My brother inlaw works at a body shop and thats what he recomended when I done mine.
