| | 78 bronco drivetrain in 83 cj7? i Can get a running, driving 1978 bronco, w/ a 44 hp front, 9inch rear w/ a detroit, 351W, New C6, and np205 for pretty cheap. My T5 in my cj is about to go, my dana 30 blows up every time i put the jeep in 4x4, and my 258 is not cranking out enough power for the mud we run in. I want to swap all the bronco powertrain and axles into my jeep. Will the c6 fit under my trans tunnel? will i have any problems running a driver side drop axle w/ the driver side drop np205 in my jeep? currently my cj has a pass side d30 w/ a Dana 300, I know i will have to do some fab work, which is not a problem, i just want to make sure that the axle and transfer case will work w/ my jeep. I know its all gonna be long, but i will be running a 4" lift max, so my angles shouldn't be too bad in the rear driveshaft. What do you guys think? is the c6 np205 overkill? I will be running 38s w/ this set up if i go through with it.

| | "some fab work"??? ...... Sounds like you are in for a complete Jeep re-design!
The C6 is a LONG transmission. The CJ5 is a SHORT jeep. That's not a good thing. Might want to see if there is a way to use a C4.
I like the 351W. Can't go wrong there.
The axles are going to be MUCH wider than the CJs. The smaller "early bronco" axles are easier to swap in.
You've already mentioned the transfer case issue. If you swap everything the outputs would be on the right side.
My suggestion would be to chase swapping to a T150 (3 speed), T18, of T176(4 speed) manual transmission. Those will all bolt to your D300 and all the rest of the drive train. And you can get a ford bellhousing to bolt your 351W to any of these transmissions.
Or you could just pull the top and doors of the Bronco and play with that! Otherwise I think you are asking for a LOT of work, with little gain.
GOOD LUCK! |

| | Thank for the input. My jeep in a cj7. I went and looked at the truck today, the front 44 has coil springs, and the mounts and all kinds of other garbage is cast right into the axle housing on those front ends, so it would be kinda trickey putting my leaf perches for the jeep on there. The truck runs really nicely, and the c6 is freshly rebuilt and the 9 inch has a new detroit. THe truck is really sound mechanically so rather than trying to put all the stuff in my jeep, ill probably just turn the bronco into my bogger, and start fixing my jeeps stock drive train. He only wants $875 for it, i can get some 38 tsls for $400 and then i wont have to mud my nice cj anymore.

| | It's not a bad idea if your a ford guy. The biggest thing is drive line length as allready mentioned, you can always kick out the cj's wheel base. The fount housing is best run as a coil front end, i did see brackets welded on once to use the stock xj suspension, it was cobbled as can be though you probably could get spring perches on it with some work. Another idea would be to shorten the bronco's frame and put a jeep tub on it, I had a buddy that had a blazer framed yj creation like that and it was pretty cool and probably a lot easier then putting everything under/ on the jeep frame. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
