Having cut mine off with an angle grinder... I found a local place that had the correct u-bolts for a CJ in stock. They are common sizes and as suggested about $10 a u-bolt with new nuts and washers. The shop does all kinds of custom lift and lowering kits on pickups and have a large portion of one wall covered with u-bolts on pegs. They happen to stock BDS brand.
Don't over tighten them... The spec is only 35 foot pounds if I remember correctly.
