as some of you guys may know i have moved from seattle washignton to the charleston south carolina area. In my grandfathers garage is a 52 flat fender willys military jeep. i was just wondering if anyone knew if there is a site on the net where i can input the serial numbers off the jeep and find the history of it. thanks for your help. y'all have a nice day.
Good Score! It must be one of the last MB in production. It was in service during the Korean War period. In 1952 the military switched over to M381A style Jeep.
I'm jealous. There's no site I know that will give you the history of the Jeep, you'd have to start a tile search with the DMV and Military records.
Whatcha' plan to do with it?
I'd like to see that jeep. I can bring my trailer over, bring it here, and store it with the rest of my junk..
Ricky...seeya...
WELL THE THING HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE SINCE 1980, HASN'T BEEN STARTED SINCE THEN. THIS JEEP IS WHAT GOT ME STARTED ON JEEPS IN THE FIRST PLACE. I USED TO SIT IN THE OLD JEEP AND PLAY ARMY FROM THE AGE OF TWO UNTILL I GOT MY FIRST JEEP IN HIGH SCHOOL. MY PLAN IS TO CHANGE ALL OF THE FLUIDS, LUBE IT ALL UP, TUNE UP AND REPLACE THINGS TO GET THE THING RUNNING. I AM GONNA DUMP A QUART OF LUCAS IN EACH CYCLINDER AND THEN TURN IT OVER A COUPLE DOZEN TIMES AND HOPE I CAN GET HER STARTED. I HAVE NEVER HEARD IT RUN. I HAVE WANTED TO DRIV EIT FOR YEARS. THE BODY HAS SOME RUST DAMAGE FROM THE SALT AIR BUT IT IS NOTHING I CANT FIX. ILL GET SOME PICS WITH THE CAMERA, ILL TRY TO POST THEM. I HAD SOME TROUBLE A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN I TRIED TO POST A PIC OF MY TJ. I AM NOT VERY GOD WITH COMPUTERS AND ANYONE WHO COULD HELP ME POST THEM I WOULD APPRIECIATE THE HELP THANKS GUYS.
The MB ended production in 1946 when the CJ2A came out. The M38 is based on the CJ3B (not to be confused with the M38-A1 which is based on the CJ-5).
MBs have tool indents on the driver's side, two-piece windshields, and square corners on the windshield frames. They have a full-floating D23 (or 25?) rear axle.
M38s have tool indents on the passenger's side, one-piece windshields, and rounded corners on the windshield frame. They also have a battery box on the top passenger side of the cowl. They have a D44 (19 spline) rear axle.
I believe the MB has 5.38 gearing and the M38 has 4.88 gearing, but I could be mistaken on this.
