| | Here is you cheep and shure to fix for your coolling issues.....Take the winch off and send it to me!!! Ill pay shipping so it wont cost anything more than the time to take it off and ship it, and the theripy youll need for giving away the winch. For my part Ill take ont the cooling issues in my TJ...lol
Sounds to me, that if removing your cover fixes the problem, then In just not use it. |

| | I DON'T Think SO... good try though...
I figured the same thing if the jeep does not run hot without the cover.. I'm not using the cover.... I'm gonna check the cooling system to make sure it's ok and take a wait and see attitude with anything major like checking the head gaskets etc...

| | My temp raised 20 degrees when I put the 8274 on my CJ. Nothing I did would help it due to the lack of airflow due to the size. I had to go from 2 rows to 3 rows thick to cure my problem.
Different jeep, different winch, but I thought I'd share. |

| | The first thing i would do, is get yourself a good mechanical guage. You dont have to mount it permament, just for testing. See what it really runs at with the cover on and off. Like was said before you may just have a bad temp switch.
Most likely the cause is that the cover is blocking what about a 1/4 of the air flow. With the cover off the air can flow under the winch adding more air flow.
I run one of those stainless grill covers, with all the little holes in it, on the CJ. Come summer i cant ever think of running it, blocks way too much air flow.
One other thought also, i may be wrong but i will say it.
I wonder that at highway speeds, is there a good amount of air going through the rad. A jeep grill is straight up and i wonder what the air is doing in front of the grill. At high speed it may be hard for the air to get out the bottom of the jeep.
Like i said i may be wrong and without a wind tunnel it would be hard too tell.
