Default O/T Olympics coverage on NBC

Was anybody else really disapointed in the coverage...NBC must have made a fortune for all the ad's, even last nights Closing Ceremony was interupted every 7 minutes with 2-3 minutes of ad's, and then they would show a(sposored) "golden moment". Talked to a friend of mine that was at the closing ceremony and he said it lasted over 4 hours...we got to see it in 3, less all the ad's which means we saw less than 1/2 of the show...The lovely Jeep Wife wanted to see the equestrian stuff. Though MSNBC was supposed to have lot's and lot's of it...she said there was bout 10 minutes (two commercial breaks worth) over 2 days...I didn't see any of the bike racing, the sailing was barely covered, rowing only got covered if an American was a medalist...Wrestling only showed the two US medalists...Fencing was shown in highlights...Many of the longer events (volleyball (beach and indoor), table tennis, soccer, water polo... were all so trunkated you couldn't keep up with what was going on...or how we got to the score...

The coverage was so US-centric it was pathetic...guess NBC's feeling was...if the US didn't win, we didn't need to see it.

NBC gets graded a C- for their coverage by me.

yeah,

I thought it pretty much sucked too....I like how they came in on the volleyball matches with two games done and the score like 12-10 and let you see 10 minutes of the whole match, and like you daid, there were other events that didn't even get sir time...

The coverage of all the sports in both the summer and winter games has gone past making it enjoyable to watch. I still like the old coverage (Howard Cosell covering the winter olympics) when you saw every competitor in a sport not just the US members and the gold medalist.

If we don't get to see all the competitors, we do not appreciate how hard it really is to do some of the things that they do.

It seems like the general publics interest in the Olympics has wained so much in the last decade that the networks have adjusted their coverage to match. Think about it... with the multiple 24 sports channels which show everything from x-treme sports to every figure skating event ever aired, not to mention the "World Poker Championships" , who needs the Olympics to get their sports fix. Used to be that it was the only place to watch the unusual events, now they are on every other day and some that have never been considered in the games.... and who decided syncronized diving and curling were Olympic worthy events anyway!

Sorry, I just miss the old days of the true Olympic spirit.
