| | If you were debt free where would you work
I have lost my way.
I have been let go from my current job, with a good reference. I was a Project Manager for a commercial construction company. I am too much of a cowboy to be in an office anyway. I came from being a self-employed traveling construction manager (way more exciting).
I am selling an investment home to pay off all my debt.
I am tired of having a stressful job.
If all you had to pay for was the utilities, beer, and Jeep stuff. Where would you work, what would you do?

If I were in that position, I'm not sure i'd even have a "job".
I've developed lots of skills over the years, and I've realized you can make lots of money using those skills to do odd jobs for people. The great thing about that is you choose your schedule and what jobs you want to do.
Now, unfortunately, I don't have that luxury, so I sit at a desk 8 hours a day writing programs and it drives me absolutely nuts.

As useless as you are, standing at the top of exit ramps, with a sign that says: homeless injured veteran, please help, will work for food, God Bless might just be your ticket to riches.

Get back into the project management thing, you were making good money, just cut back on the jobs...take more time off between them to 'recharge the batteries'.
There is something to be said for living debt free, and knowing that all you have to do is put food on the table. Cuts down on how you view your job, when you know, "I can walk away from this place right now, and still pay my bills..." Makes even a crappy job better.

Dude,
First off, sorry to hear you were laid off, that sucks,,,,
My neighbor told me he got laid off a couple years ago from his gig,so he started doing odd jobs til he could find another job, ends up, he is busy enough now to keep doing the odd jobs and he enjoys it (makes his own schedule and hours), he is his own boss and has a alot of regulars that keep calling him back and recommending him to others,
He builds decks, hangs ceiling fans, etc. That seems to work for him here in Matthews cuz alot of the people around here won't do those things themselves, all he did was make up some mailers and went around and put them on houses.
If you have any skills this might work for you
If I were debt free and could work anywhere, I would find a local 4x4 shop that needed part time help and work there, I enjoy working on rigs and it would give me a place to work on my own rigs...either that or as a bartender in a mountain resort, I like mountains, and I like liquor so there you go

Yeap...exit ramping is very lucrative! Saw a homie walk from his "post" (ramp at Hwy52 & University Pkwy) across the street to the Lowe's parkig lot and jump in a brand stinkin' new Caddy STS! WTF?
Like Galen said, you did well on your own (or were you BS'ing us?)...fire it back up, be more selective of what you take project wise (job length, travel, etc.) and keep getting it! The tax laws greatly favor the SE & Biz Owners.
BTW, need a patner? ...cause my "crappy job" just keeps getting more crappy...then again, that's why they call it "work"...if it was fun, simple, or easy....they'd call it vacation!

Already thought of that. But it has to be in Charlotte.
Wait- maybe I could just book outings on the weekends.
I wonder if the Natahala Outdoor Center is hiring rafting guides?
How long do you think it would be before I cursed out a family for not paddling correctly?

become a welfare mooch! j/k
you could work part time doing odd jobs....i did that last summer because i didnt get the internship i wanted...made 300 a week working about 30 hours (in 3 days)....all in cash....which was nice, more than enough to cover my expenses. was really nice to have 4 day weekends. if you have savings, maybe restart your own business? if i had a bunch of money saved i'd proly become a slum lord and make other peoples rent pay my way. |

yeah, fishing guide would be cool, you could move to Western NC and buy a big log cabin and be a rafting/fishing guide and provide a place for all of us to visit/crash when we go wheeling

Well, I'll be spending it all getting out of debt.
Slum Lord- let me save you a lot of time and grief, don't go there unless you have great patients- I do not.
