| | Dana 30 Narrowtrack ?? again - conflicting info
I have a Dana 30 narrow-track w/ drums in my jeep.
I have a Dana 30 narrow-track w/ disks.
I want to convert the drum 30 to disk (it has the right gearing and locker already).
I have a spare set of axle shafts for the drum 30 that I have been carying w/ me. Are the outer axle shafts the same lenght on a drum brake 30 as a disk brake 30??????
I have heard yes and no
If they are different, how would you go about the conversion?

Can't say for sure, but why don't you just swap everything from the balljoints out? Then you don't have to worry.
When I replaced the disk brake D30 with a 44, I sent all of the outers to a guy in the northwest, who used the parts to do a conversion on his drum brake axel.

I was going to do that, except I want to keep my Warn Preimum hubs. I also want to keep the outer shafts that I have working if possible, so I can have a spare set in the Jeep.

I really don't know for sure , but since you have both I would think you could just measure it all carefully, since your disasembling one for spares anyways!??
Just a thought... GAS.

They should both be 27 spline shafts with 6 bolt hubs so you can keep your hubs.

I swaped 83 disc to 75 drum brakes last year.
I can't remember if the lengths are the same, but I do remember the inner seal surface/slinger was not the same. So we swaped from hubs out.
The 6 bolt drum hubs also would not work with the rotors because the hub had a rounded edge and wouldn't allow the rotor to lay square on the hub. You can either machine the back side of the hubs or enlarge the hole in the rotor. If the 6 bolt hubs had rotors no problem they are machined.
Hope this helps.

Yes, as long as they are both 53" axles. |

Thank You!!!
That's exactly what *I* said the first 12 times he asked!
Seriously, I swapped the the brake parts only (HUBS...*not lockouts* were already flat as mentioned) and was able to use the stock shafts/spindles/hubs/lockouts. When I bought a set from BMB(?) a year or so back, I tried to use them, but one side had the larger ID for the inner spindle seal and WOULD NOT FIT. While I could have fiddled around trying to machine it...it was easier to find another. |

Sorry guys, I just tore it down and they are exactly the same. I haven't checked the diameter of the shaft its self but that flange is the same and so is the lenght.
