I located what seems to be and older warn winch
It is an upright winch the following info on tag
stamping on casting 902
it looks to be controled by 3 cables going to inside cab
Can anyone give me any info on this winch?
Is it a good winch?
does it have good line speed?
Are parts still available?
Is it worth it for me to take a second look at?
Thanks for your reply
I am waiting for info from warn,I hope they reply to my email
Any more info would be of great help. Winch has been sitting there for atleast 15 years.I might be able to pick it up cheap ($100.00 cdn.)Trying to collect info for now so
i can figure out if it is worth it.I have a weak spot for
old working stuff.
I picked up an old warn 8274 from a yard sale a couple of weeks ago for $40.00. Best deal I've ever made. Guy was just looking to get it out of his garage. It works too. I've used it a couple of times and I am extremely pleased with it. You'll definitely be happy with it once it's up and running. BTW the serial number on mine starts with 29. I can't remember the rest of the numbers.
Warn sent me an old parts manual and some other info..I have one on my '71 Jeepster. It has been a reliable unit for the last 20 or so years. I tried to attach a pic of the manual, but the size was too big.
The rep. said that the main gear is no longer available. Never have had any trouble with the unit. Just check the lube after dunking it, as they are bad to take a drink...
Warn sold the rights, parts, etc. of these winches in 1992 to the 4 Wheel Drive Center of Minnesota. Give them a shout, talk to John, 1-800-328-4445. Several years ago I had to rebuild the one on my old "Cruiser"! They stock the parts, have rebuilt motors in stock for them, etc. Also, check out this link to POR on rebuilding the 8274. Rick
