My lugs are getting worn out and I had to replace one the last time a balanced the tires. I want change the rest myself. I have heard you can just hammer them out and pull the new ones in with an impact wrench. I have also heard that they should be pressed in so the do not get weakened. Which is correct? Also whith front disc brakes should they be done differently than the rear drums?
I am assuming you mean the wheel studs. On my CJ7 they are pressed into the discs in the front. You have to pull the dusc and simply hammer them out and hammer new ones in. On the rear (I have 1pc axles) I think you have to pull the axle shaft and then you can hammer them out. It might be able to done without that though. While you are at it replace the lugs nuts also. Dont know if that was any help but i hope so.
I have hammered them in on the fronts and I have used a four way and an air gun on the rears. Have yet to use a press to do it. Haven't had any problems with mine yet.
Lugs or Studs I've heard both used... thanks for your help, both of your responses are in line with what I've been getting when I ask the question with friends.
