| | AMC Jeep CJ10A aircraft tug, have questions
Okay, not a normal jeep for this forum, but it is short wheel base.
Have one sitting at work taking up space. It's a former US Air Force aircraft tug, it was over at Selfridge Air National Guard base if my memory serves me. The plaque on the dash says it's an AMC Jeep CJ10A aircraft tug, delivered sometime in '85. It's 2wd, has what appears to be a Nissan I6 diesel, an auto tranny, a transfer case with a front output that you can't see any evidence of from the cab (I bumped my head into it while looking at the rear axle, only reason I know it's there), a SPOA leaf sprung beam front axle, and a fullsize truck width SPOA Dana 70 8 lug FF rear axle (I think, has a 70 cast into one of the webs). It has a pickup sorta cab, but you can see where you could unbolt it and take the top off flush with the hood and then fold the windshield down, square YJ-ish headlights, big ass bumpers with clevis hitches front and rear, and the rear has a storage bin, the gas tank, and just a lot of dead weight to weigh it down. It's been sitting in the same spot for almost a year now, and had been in the previous spot for a while. Battery is dead and the diesel apparently smoked quite a bit. I've only been with the company for a year so I've never seen it running and can't say how badly it smoked, just going off of what others have told me.
Anyone know anything about these? I'm trying to get rid of it because it's just taking up space, and just gathering info and seeing if others would be interested in it.

Honestly, I have no idea what it's worth, or what the boss would take for it. Right now it's not running and just taking up space, sitting there with a flat rear tire. So more reason for him to get rid of it. Feel free to gimme a low ball offer, and I'll bounce it off of him. I've crawled around under it, no leaks and the ground is free of oil and other spots. Lower miles on it too.

The surplus ones around here at Mountain Home AFB typically go for around $1500-2000 in decent condition.

1. They're governed at top speed of 25mph.[*]The transfer-case is locked into low. [*]I think it's got a TF727 Automatic
2. Me, I LIKE 'em.
3. I'd swap front axle and the transfer-case to a Dana300,
4. to get 4WD,
5. Then put on a Pickup bed,
6. and have a Jeep similar to the exported J10,
7. I like the cab!

Wow, that means if the last digit on the odo is tenths, it has 26,324 miles, all under 25mph. The engine hour meter says 4064.6 hours. No idea what the gear ratio is in the D70, the tag on the diff is missing, but you can kinda see where it was.
Really, make my job easier, someone make me a low ball offer and I'll see if my boss likes it. Drive up here, put it on a trailer, drive home with it. We have no reason to fix it because we have 2 fully functioning tugs and only need one 99% of the time.

Here is a pic of one that has been "fixed up". It belongs to my jeep buddy's dad. He put in a 4.0 and a wrangler rear tub. This is a cool toy.
