But if it is brazed, why would the part be available seperately in the exploded view above??
[/ QUOTE ]1. Well, Rene, you got me there!
2. I've never found any other pieces in the door...
3. There's a little "rounded" protrusion on the that part that looked like it,
4. Was brazed at that point, and had broken loose.
5. I wonder if this part wraps around the slide as a clip?

I did find a sharp bit around the back of the window guide which looked like it was about the same width as the rod support just like Brickisred said... Anyways, there must be a way to give this rod a bit of support. The original clip is very flimsy and I am not surprised if it had broken off like we think it did. Is there anybody here with a set of doors where this support is still intact so he can give us a clue how this is attached (maybe a digital pic could help)??

don't know if this will help..

This is looking from the front of the door towards the back, down low. The tab is spot welded to the inner door skin (metal).

1. It looks like the parts are different than on my 83 CJ,
2. However, is the part spotwelded to the inner door frame, or,
3. Is it a spring clip that is clipped to the inside frame lip?

It is spot welded on the back side of the inner door panel at the arrow.

on further inspection the weld is actually about 1 inch below were I've got the arrow pointing. There is a crease that runs down from the lock mech following the door edge. The L shaped clip sits up agains this crease.

That is definitely a different support than used in CJ doors, but it might be a good idea to do it this way. I don't have a problem welding some sort of support on the inner door skin or even just bolting (rivetting) it on. On CJ doors, the suport seems to be on the other side of the U-rod near the outer door skin but I suppose this doesn't really matter. Thanks for the pics!!
