T150 kicks out of 2nd gear.

Anyone have any (relatively) painless solutions to this problem? It has gone from only occasionally popping out to doing it every time - now almost violently. I wonder if it simply needs a linkage adjustment, or if perhaps some teeth are gone. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Order a new 2nd gear synchro

drop tranny

replace 2nd gear synchro

do the clutch and throwout bearing while you're in there if it's been a while

had the same problem with my first 78 5, real pita, but it's not hard to fix.

Most likely you are going to need a new 2nd gear. Where the syncro slider engages the gear there are no flats left on the sides. Could also be a worn shift fork.

Re: T150 kicks out of 2nd gear.

I have the same problem with the T150 in my 78 CJ5 304 except it pops out of 3rd unless you have power to the tranny. If you are just bumping along and not on it, it will go. The tranny is a fresh rebuilt from Woodys of Vancouver, WA. The main shaft was fried (low oil) so all gears and shaft are new. It has been that way from day one of the reinstall. Woodys was of no help as to what the problem may be. That's why I have a 77 CJ T18 on the garage floor ready to go when I get the time to put it in.

Good Luck!

Could very well be the forks and yup you may need the gear also, guess i was lucky when mine went. I had ordered the gear, but when i pulled it apart the gear was good as new, just the synchro was fubar. so you may want to order the gear also, but just make sure you can return it if you dont need it, i got stuck with mine and had to pawn it off on a friend :-)

Yeah, I did the same thing as Saddle_Tramp and just replaced it.

It the syncros. I just kept driving mine for an additional three years until it took out third and fubared the whole thing.
