T-case swap for GC

I would like to find out if anyone has made a swap from a NP249 (quadra-trac) to a NP242 (selectrac) transfer case. My 249 crapped out on me (viscous coupling) and I would rather have the 242 in it for better selectability. I can get the rebuilt 242 from the local Jeep dealer but they do not know if it canbe directly swapped. Any feedback would be helpful.

I was under the impression that the NV-249 was the new Quadra Trac transfer case offered with the 1998-99 Grand Cherokee and that the NV-242 Select Trac case was standard on 1993-97 models. In any case, the resident expert on the NV-242 is CJ DAVE. He is normally found on the Short Wheelbase BBS. I believe he owns a 1997 Grand with the 4.0L engine and the NV-242 t'case.

The Quadra-drive is the new T-case for 99 model year. I will try Cj Dave and see what he knows.
