what transfer case/cases were used in a 1988 XJ Cherokee that had a automatic transmission?
and need to know if they will bolt up to a 1986 Crysler/Jeep 999 automatic?
i can get one for 35.00 ! and dont want to pass it by if it will bolt up
(as for driveshafts and the like,i know they may need altered,as long as it will bolt to tranny is all i care about for now)

The quick answer is:Yes. The 1988 XJ xfer case is the NP 231. The Chrysler 904/998/999 transmissions will bolt to it. I think that combination is used on YJ Wranglers with the 4 cyl. engine and AT standard. Good Luck!
