XJ Wiper problem
Hi:
I'm having a problem with the windshield wipers on my 88 XJ and I'm wondering if anyone has any adivice or had a similar issue.
At any given time the wipers will stop without warning. If I turn the switch off they will return to home position in around 8-10 seconds. Then they will work again. Sometimes they won't fail at all for days of rain and other times it will happen every few minutes.
When they do stop, wiggling the switch doesn't do anything, so I don't think it is a bad switch.
Also, it doesn't seem to relate to bumps in the road, but I haven't ruled out something shorting out.
My Haynes manual shows a circut breaker in the line, but I'm not knowlegable when it comes to auto electronics, so I don't know if it would reset itself if there was a short.
I'm thinking it could also be the motor or a relay, but I don't know, like I said, I'm a wrench guy.
The jeep has the simple 2 position switch without the intermittant controls.
Any advice?
