Default brake lights on

My husband let a coworker move our 2000 jeep grand cherokee, when he went to drive home the brake lights would not go out! now we are stuck with brake lights on, please help!!!!

I can't think of anything that his coworker could have done that would cause brake switch failure but, I'm pretty sure what has happened. The brake light switch will be mounted at the brake pedal so that the pedal arm contacts it at the top of the pedal stroke. When you push the pedal down, the switch should close the contacts inside causing the brake lights to come on. Check for proper adjustment and function of this switch. It may simply be out of allignment.
