Angry 242 tcase noise

hi my wifes grand cherokee 1996 4.0 auto 242 tcase. it sounds like the tcase is making a loud wining almost like its out of oil yes i checked its full do these like to eat beirings or any other parts i dont think its in the tranny if i put the tranny in N at 30 40 mph the noise gets a lot quiter the noise is the same if i am on the gas or off and it dosenot change through 1.2,3, or in ful time or part time 2 wd or 4wd it dont start to get loud until 30 or 35 mph any one ever hade this happen or or can some one point me in the right direction trans or transfer case i have a tcase out of my old 95 xj but the outshaft is not the same

It could be anything, but the output bearings seem to go @200,000 miles.

it sounds like the over drive it only will make noise when overdrive is on . now i know what to get the wife for christmas a new to her used tranny so much for get eny under the misseltoe ha ha

Your symtoms are the first signs of viscous coupling failure! But you have 3 position case so maybe your chain is going out. who knows
