Default XJ front axle poping?

We have a "96 xj 4.0" that feels and sounds like it has a locker when making slow right and left turns (like turning into a parking space or driveway). high speed turning makes no noise or locker jerking motions. Last monday it starting doing this, i took it into a local mech that i trust to look into it. The only problem he could find was 2 u-joints (driver front axle shaft and rear drive shaft) that had slop in them, he replaced them friday and the noise and jerking stoped. Well tonight while we were stoping to eat it made the noise and jerking again.

Any ideas on what is going on? does it sound like the x-case is shifting into 4wd with out our input or that the front dif is giving out?

Did he replace the Ujoints in the axles or just the ones in the front driveshaft?

If one of the axle joints is bad, it only makes sense the other isn't far off since they are the same age and have the same mileage. The other possibilities are wheel bearing, dried out ball joint and dry tcase (or too much play in the chain if it's a chain driven case)

Also pop off the diff cover and check the spider gears, I have broken a few. Probably the axle u-joints though.
