Default Cherokee rear shock mounts
A customer came in to the shop yesterday with a '96 Cherokee with both rear shock mounts broken out of the body. Apparently there were originally studs welded to the body. They broke loose and a local Midas shop welded bolts where the studs were. Those lasted about ten minutes. I want to make a permanent fix for him. Is there an accepted solution? Surely this isn't the first time this has happened, but I'm a CJ guy and never ran into it before.

I've never seen them broken. My guess is his shocks are too long or too short and act as limiters or stops.

That's a good point. This isn't the most sophisticated guy around. He has a spring lift but doesn't know how much it is. The shocks came with the lift so they should be right, but it wouldn't surprise me if they aren't.

Thumbs up Rear shock mounts
On my 2000 XJ they were so rusted "Western Pa" from the salt on side just snapped off. the other sid some "Kroil" worked it magic they both came out! endded up drillimg and re-tapping the snapped off side. replaced hardware with stainless and four new bilsteins shocks what a deference! woth the heart ache of the broken bolts Almost!
