| | 92 Cherokee- grinding noise from left front wheel I have a 92 cherokee that just recently developed a grinding noise from what sounds like the left front wheel. It's a noise similar to the noise you get when you let your brake pads run all the way down the the rivets. Funny thing is, it only happens when you step on the brakes, or when you make a right hand turn (without your foot on the brake). I checked the brakes, and they are good. I also just replaced the left front bearing assembly (cuz I was sure that's what it was), but it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas? |

I don't know. It hadn't even crossed my mind that a U Joint could make the kind of noise. I guess I should have mentioned that I buried the jeep up to the bottom of the doors in sand about a week before this noise started. |

| | That happened to me the last couple days, I thought it was time to change the front brakes. Well, there was still a little bit of pad left but I changed them anyway and the noise remained when I went for a test drive.
I braked a couple of times pretty hard and it seems that one of the back wheels locked up because the Jeep fishtailed (the ABS has always worked otherwise), but after braking a couple of times like that, the noise and wheel lockups went away.
I am going to check out the drums and see if those pads need replacing or if there is some other issue.

| | Sand is really hard on bearings, u-joints and such. It gets stuck in the grease and can grind them up.
