Sounds to me, based on what you have said and no other details, that the pads are worn heavily and the caliper is over extending. The fact that it got red hot tells me that you should replace the caliper as the seals may well have been damaged by the extreme heat. I would do a full brake overhaul on the rear axle, at the very least, to make sure everything is kosher again. If you don't have the knowledge/tools/skill to do it yourself, it's really worth the money and piece of mind to have a shop like Midas, or whoever your local brake repair hot shots are, to do the work. Do not just put pads in and think it will be good. If you do do the work yourself, be sure to inspect the caliper pins very closely to be sure they arn't marred or damaged in some way that they causing the hang. A brake that siezes on you can be a very bad expierence in the wrong circumstances. Also another note of info, since you said it was a Grand Cher. and it is the rear brake, the rear disc brakes have a drum style brake and shoe assembly that mounts INSIDE the rear disc and uses the inside of the disc flange as a break surface, these can be a bit of a pain in the a$$ to get apart. I STRONGLY recomend replacing all the springs, pads, e-brake shoes etc. Doing a half a$$ed job on brakes is never good for anyone.
