Default 93 Grand general ?s

I just bought yet another Jeep Cherokee. Newest is a '93 Grand Laredo. Specs are 5.2L, auto, AWD t-case (#?), 30, 8.25.

Got just a few general questions for you Jeep lovers. Is a 231 swap plug-n-play? This AWD crap is killing me in gas and pulling in a parking spot is the pits.

It has CV type axles in the front 30. Can I just swap those for some Spicer type U-joints axles?

Does anyone have the 4" Rough Country lift and how do you like it?

And lastly, Can I take that crappy plastic off the sides without spending a small fortune at a body shop to fix holes and such? Any pics with it off that you can link me to?

Thanx for the help, you have helped in the past and I will always turn here first.

Oh yeah, everything works great even the A/C and I got it for $1,500 with new tires on it.

Brad.

Talkin about the body cladding and I forgot bumpers. Any good bumpers? Don't really like the pre-runner style and ARBs are way expensive. Pics of homebuilt?

Hey Bradzuki, you can swap out to the 231 but you will probably need to change the rear driveshaft. There was a company who made the U-Joint conversion but I'm unable to find a link to them anymore, it's was a fairly straightforward swap IIRC-There was also a writeup if you google it you might find. Rough Country springs used to be notorious for snapping coils and a literally "rough" ride, I'm not sure they have changed. I know some guys on jeepsunlimited.com have taken the cladding off but the holes are still there. I myself was considering taking my cladding off and am trying to fab up some polished bolt/sleeve to put in the holes for cosmetics. Good luck with the new ride and keep us posted!
