| | '99 engine into a '93 My '93 XJ's engine (4.0) is over 200K and losing it. Burns oil, no power, hard starting, etc. I have come across a low mileage '99 4.0 and I am wondering if there is any reason it would not drop right into my '93. Any computer issues, etc. ? As I understand it aside from the low mileage on later years it is good to get ones '96 and after.
Before I drop a grand on this one I would like to know I won't hit any snags. Wheelin' season is already upon us, I want to get back out there with something I can trust. |

| | Should be no problem as long as you use the '93 electronics.

| | Depends. Are you refering to a vehicle your going to tow to the trail? Or a DD that you take off road on the weekends? I would refer to your local DOT on this one. You guys have some strict laws up there regarding emmisions and crap. Here is a link MD DOT I am not entirly certain you can swap just the short block, and if you go for the long block swap you'll likely need all the electronics and associated emmisions junk from the 99. On the plus side if you do swap all the emmissions/electronics, you'll only have to have it OBDII read for codes, for emmisions testing .

| | engine swap This should be no problem I just put a 98 in a 92 and all i had to do was change out the sensors, fuel rail, throttlebody, and dill and tape a small hole for the temp sensor now the intake was the same on the 98's but I thank they changed some on the 99 so all you should have to do is just change the intake and drill a hole for the temp sensor.oh and I would'nt spend a lot on a engine either paid 300.00 for mine in a salvage yard with 70,000 on it . | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
