Default WTF: 38\'s on 3\" of lift, check this out

I was just browsing XJ setups on CarDomain.com and ran into this. Guy is running 38's on only 3" of lift. Insane. Check out the pic at the very bottom. Just looks so damn crazy, I wanted to share it with you guys.

I'd be curious on:

1) How he cut the rear fenders?
2) What flares those are?
3) How far forward he moved the front axle or what mods were made to keep the tires from contacting the floor boards.

OK, yes he has 38's but look how far that suspension is going to get to move before major rubbing (which can cause failure of forward motion at a given point) and I would like to know his REAL world turning radious, I'd be willing to bet you could turn a limmo in a tighter circle (insert humour chuckle here)
I do like the look and it would make a great dd mall crawler but would be weak at best in real world off roading round where I live.

yeh, def not practical for real wheeling but cool looking none the least. reminds me of an H2 at a glance. just curious too, I will be getting a 4.5" lift with the 33" baja claws I just bought and wondering if SYE and driveshaft and necessary at first. I am trying to watch the cost for now, and may upgrade later, or not go too heavy wheeling until I get the components. also anyone know of a good thread showing how to remove stock fender flares and trim fenders?

Above 3" lift you probably need an SYE including a new DS, especially when wheeling seriously. The newer vehicles seem to need an SYE more than the older years. Some of us have 4" lift without one but you probably will suffer severe driveline vibrations or damage when wheeling...

I just finished wheelin at Rausch Creek this past w/e. In our group on the trails was a late 80's XJ runnin 33's with major trimming and a 2" BB (spacers in the front and blocks in the rear). No mods to the t-case or d-shaft. We spent 2.5 hours wrenching, jacking and dragging the xj on the trail because the d-shaft all but came out of the t-case tail cone. We spent another 45 mins waiting for a spare u-joint when the needle bearings were lost during removal of the d-shaft...
Get the SYE and a new d-shaft. The shaft will be too short for any real articulation of the rear wheels and it will come out of the t-case. "We" were just lucky the shaft did not damage the tail cone when it came out. That would have been a real bummer.

Did any of you happen to look where he is located, those are built that way to drive in the huge snow drifts they get there, not meant for rock crawling or anything like that, get out in the snow with him and he will walk all over you

I was thinking the same thing. It was purpose built. Kinda like my hunk of junk. I don't plan on wheeling my xj but rather have it handy if I have to take side roads in the snow when stupid people block up the road in bad weather with accidents.
