| | Need your expert advice guys - Jeep wont start
My 89 cherokee with a 4.0 in it just decided not to start today. The only thing I can think of is that ballast (I think its a ballast. Looks like a white peice of porcelan with two connectors on it) that sits on the drivers side fender well has been cracked for quite sometime. It controls the fuel pump.It has two wires connected to it. Its been held together with cable ties for a very long time but the jeep has always started. Anyways, do I have to replace it or is there someway to bypass it. Im not even totally sure if thats what it is, but seems the most logical right now.
Any advise would be much appreciated......Thanks everyone.

use a Ohm meter to check if the resistor...dont just throw parts a a problem....do you have spark, fuel, does the engine crank, when you turn the key does the fuel pump work. Could be CPS,,,or a lot of other things

just connect the 2 wires and see if the engine starts. If it does, replace the B/R. If not check the B/R relay by switching it with another. Check at the valve at the fuel rail if the rail is pressurized. It might also be the regulator at the valve or the vac line. Just to besure disconnect an reconnect the CPS at the connector.
Let us know what happens...

My PNSS (Park Neutral Start Switch) failed me this w/e at Raush Creek. I couldn't get the switch off of the shaft to attmept a fix at the Off Road park so, I guess I'll have at it sometime this week.
FWIW, my '92 (it has the 4 speed auto w/OD) would rarely start in Park but did so reliably in Neutral. When I got it on the tralier to leave home for the run this past Friday it started getting sketchy with the Neutral start. It functioned great Friday and Saturday but Sunday morning it quit altogether. Fuel pump will prime but after that you get nothing. No spin, no fire. Jumping the solenoid doesn't help either...
