Default Re: NV241 swap?

wow.. been a while since i have posted here. I should pay more attention to threads i start! first off thanks ALOT for all your replies. you guys all make a good point that the NV241 would be very hard to find, and expensive. As far as what i have planed for "my future xj", nothing the 231 and 8.25 couldnt handle. it would be silly for me to tell you i plan on building a 4.7l fire breathing stroker running twin turbo/notrious/8375896 horsepower. I think my only REAL plans are to keep trying to save the money to get a XJ first. But when i can find some extra coin, Rusty's 3in add-a-leaf seems like a good deal. Its all flat here in ohio, just a bunch of mud. Dont need any articulation. Some 31 superswampers on steel should pull me through some weekend wheelin

I am glad to have found this thread. It seems as though there are others out there that had the same idea as myself. But for me it is too late, I have already purchased my nv241 and installed it in my 99 XJ. I really like it, it bolted right up with minor trimming to the x-member and slight adjustment in the linkage. The speedo works, but is off quite a bit about 10% and the 4wd indicator did not hook up, but if I don't know I am in 4wd, I have other problems.
Now to my question and concern:
Like I said, I love the swap but I have quite a bit of vibs at freeway speed 55mph+ DONOTDELETE, you were talking about some run out in the output shafts. The DS is brand new in this and I swapped in an 8.8 which has an off set diff. Most everyone blames the offset diff for my vibs. I feel as though something is wrong with the t-case. Tom Woods himself said loosen all the motor and tranny mounts and try and slide them over more in line with the rear diff. I have not had the oppurtunity to do this but I am not hopeful either. Anyone else have experience with the NV241...? Please help

When they changed over the bulliten software, some of the people users names got lost but the posts were still there, thus the name DONOTDELETE. It is not an actual users name and the person who actually made that response may not even come here anymore, we'll just have to wait and see. As far as the vibes, I would be in agreement that the misalignment would likely be either the source or one of the sources of your vibes, I would also look closely at the pinion angle as far as in relation to horizontal, you may well have not got it right when you welded on the new perches.

I think DDawg made that reply.

Is the vehicle lifted? Then you may benefit from a SYE. If it's not allready there. If it's lifted, I hope you didn't use blocks for the rear.

Maybe looking at Toyota or Landrover forums may learn something about how to cure vibes at an off-set rear diff.

Thank you for the help guys. I guess I could have put some more specs in about the vehicle. 99 cherokee with 5.5" TnT Long arm, 33" tires (brand new balanced and all) the NV 241 does not need a SYE (one of the reasons for the purchase) and the rear diff is only off by couple of inches. My friends have the 8.8 in the rear of thier wrangler with half the length of driveline with no vibs at all. The longer driveline should not be affected by the offset diff, right? This is common swap for both wrangler and cherokee, so I really doubt the diff is my problem. The pinon angle was set by my local 6 states, they actually had to shim it because I had it too low. I really think that something is wrong with the tcase or dampener on the back.
