Default Convert 231 from 23 to 21 spline?

I'm getting ready to do a search for this but I'm mid swap and need an answer quick.

Is it possible to change the imput gear of a 231 from 23 spline to 21 spline and what's the easiest way to do it. I'm starting a tear down on the xfer case now but I'm not getting too far yet.

1) Yes its possible...
2) My reading on this has told me there is really only 1 way... not necessarily an "easier" or "harder" way...
3) Have fun... that is all the help i can provide... (yes, im pretty useless)

Your right. It can be done. I did it tonight. It took an hour to get it off and 4 hours to open both cases, swap the input splines and put it all back in the XJ. It was 1 am before I finished but I now have a 4WD XJ again. (applause coming from the background.)
I got my answer from a Quadratec magazine which showed the breakdown of a 231. It showed that all parts inside were the same except for the 23 or 21 spline input gear.

Do ya have a link to that site, or is it the same from previous posts? I also may need to switch splines if i get a working t-case.Let us know how it drives over the boulders. (Or at least the curb a couple of times)

Honestly it wasn't a big deal to tear it down. I'll write it up here in a few and post it.

I've got a 231 in my garage in pieces right now. What do you need?

Thanx for the offer But!
Want to rebuild It!Really what I want is to convert 249 to 242 the case appears to be the same and would like to build a spare 242!The 249 coupling is $400 bones ,that has failed and in my mind is not worth the paper it was designed on.Not impressed with it! 242 or the 231 are far better units in my opinion.I like selection.
I guess I should try to round up a 242 donour for guts just in case. But what I am looking for is a good parts supplier for t case parts on the net!I have the 242 in place of the full time now but want to build a spare.

I know Quadratec.com sells the individual parts. Not sure how their prices are compared to anybody else but its a start.

Go to www.naxja.org to the forums and look up a guy named 'beezil'. He was discussing TCase rebuilds not too long ago but did not mention a parts supplier so I woul PM him asking where to get this stuff.

And then post it up here so we all know!
