Default Transfercase??

This has me and my friends puzzeled. I have a 90xj that was a DAILY DRIVER for 2 years. I took it off road to Wellsville and blew a passenger side u-joint and broke the yoke that held the u-joint. I replaced the outer axle shaft, wheel hub bearing, and a bushing inside. After install i took it for a spin around the block and it sounds like a have gravel grinding in my front diff case. I took the cover off to inspect but found nothing wrong. Ive had the passenger side axle shafts off several times and put them back together and get the same problem. My buddies came over and we jacked it up on 4 jackstands. When we started it up and put it in 4 wheel drive - the front wheels are turning at 25%-50% faster than the back wheels. what gives???? As i stated this was a daily driver for 2 years and never had a noise or this problem. Could my transfer case be causing this problem?? I have never touched the axle ring&pinion. Any clues??

Default Re: Transfercase??

Does it have command-trac or select-trac transfer case, ie your t-case shift lever will have 2 hi, neutral, 4 hi, 4 lo if it is command trac, it will have 2 hi, 4 full time, neutral, 4 part time, 4 lo part time. If you have command trac I would bet you have the shift motor on the front axle housing and would be looking there to see if you knocked off a vacume line, or of course when you took it apart to make repairs u didn't get the axle shift collar and mechanism in right. Sounds like the collar is dragging on the edge of the teeth trying to engage all the time.

i have the Command Trac. when i had it on 4 jackstands it did "seem" to fully engage in 4 wheel, but i did notice the one time i removed the shift motor that it was engaged in 4 wheel when i had it in 2 wheel. i will remove this weekend and inspect it again. thanks
